An insurance company is refusing to pay the costs to repatriate the body of a man killing in a biking accident while on a 6 month holiday in South East Asia. The costs of repatriating the body come to over £3,000 and the grieving family cannot afford the money.
When the news of the death of their sons reached the Patterson family they contacted the insurance company who insured their son's bike and trip. They were told that a number of policy violations had occurred, as the insurance policy was for a 50cc motor bike but bike involved in the accident was 125cc bike. In addition the Patterson's were told that their son was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which also impacted the policy.
Understanding what an insurance policy covers and what it does not is essential before beginning any biking journey; otherwise the consequences could be devastating.
